Theron Masters, 23, is currently a student at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in the MM Piano Performance program. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music of Piano Performance at UMich SMTD in 2020. Theron started learning piano at age 4 and currently studies with Professor Arthur Greene. Theron has performed at several international festivals over the past few years. Theron attended the MusicFestPerugia international piano festival in Perugia, Italy in the summer of 2017 and 2018. He performed the Beethoven 2nd piano concerto, mvt. 1 with the Virtuoso Brunensis Orchestra in 2017 and the Beethoven 3rd piano concerto, mvt. 3 with the Cherubini Symphony Orchestra in 2018. Theron attended the Accademia Musicale Chigiana Six-week Summer Chamber festival in Siena, Italy, in summer 2019. He peformed the Brahms Piano Quintet in F minor mvt. 1 with the Simone Quartet of the University of Colorado Boulder in a concert in Alba, Italy and the 3rd mvt. with the Kosmos Quartet of CU Boulder in Palazzo Chigi-Saracini in Siena, the Brahms Piano Quartet in C minor mvt. 1 in Palazzo Chigi-Saracini in Siena, and the Madeline Dring Trio for Flute, Oboe, and Piano in Cremona, Italy. While at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Theron had the opportunity to study with renowned professors such as Professor Boris Berman of Yale University, Professor Carol Leone of Southern Methodist University, and Professor Michelle Schumann of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Piano Intensive Program at Accademia Musicale Chigiana. Most recently, Theron attended Vivace Matera’s online festival in July 2020. Theron has received many honors and prizes over the years. Several awards include a live performance on Kansas Public Radio, First Place in the MSMTA Concerto Competition, and Second Place in the Protsman Classical Competition. He was named the Alden Theater Young Artist and gave multiple performances at the Young Artist Musicale at George Mason University. Theron has performed in Masterclasses for Martin Katz, Lang Lang, John O’Conor, Leon Fleisher, Karen Shaw, and other prominent pianists. Theron attended Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Piano Program, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Summer Piano Academy, and IIYM. In May 2011, Theron made his orchestral debut with the Shepherd University Orchestra. In 2012, he established the Sharing Through Music community concert series and performed for retirement communities in Virginia.
